Belfast Bicycle Club
The Belfast Bicycle Club is a group that, above all, loves to ride bikes and enjoy great company. Casual rides, movie nights, our two spectacular local races, and road trips to events far and near keep us busy all year round. At the heart of Maine’s midcoast, Belfast is where many of our rides begin and end, but club members hail from all around. Quiet, rolling backroads and miles of twisty singletrack are staples of the landscape. Some of our favorite rides take place on Waldo County’s finest dirt roads in the fall! The *Future* Belfast and Moosehead Lake Rail-Trail
Coastal Mountains Land Trust is working to create a new rail trail along two miles of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad on the Passagassawakeag River in Belfast. The three miles of the B&MLRR corridor that lie within the city limits of Belfast are currently owned by Unity Property Management, a division of the Unity Foundation. The Land Trust has approached the Foundation to propose converting the corridor to a recreational trail.
The Land Trust sees an opportunity to convert the southern two miles of the B&MLRR corridor, from downtown Belfast to City Point Road, to a multi-use public recreation trail for walking, running, biking, and cross-country skiing. The rails and ties would be removed, the bed resurfaced, and the bridge across the Passagassawakeag River remodeled for safe pedestrian use. This section of the rail corridor is exceptionally scenic since it proceeds along the river for most of the proposed two miles of new trail.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust
Coastal Mountains Land Trust is a non-profit organization that has been working since 1986 to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of western Penobscot Bay. We have protected 6,700 acres, protecting forever our area’s natural resources, wildlife habitat, scenic beauty, and public outdoor recreation access. In the Belfast area we have been working to create the Passagassawakeag Greenway, a system of trails that allows people to enjoy several undeveloped, forested areas along the upper “Passy.” Visit our website to read more about our preserves, all of which are open to the public, and download maps of the Greenway trails. 101 Mt. GreenStreets!
GreenStreets! is the community tree organization for Belfast, Maine. We plant, protect, maintain, and advocate for trees. GreenStreets! has been doing its work for over 20 years, and we have now planted over 600 trees on Belfast’s streets, in Belfast’s parks, schools, cemeteries, and around Belfast’s public buildings -- including City Hall, the public landing, the boat house. GreenStreets! serves as the City’s tree planters. We work closely with the City but we are not a city committee.
